About The Organization:

Created in 2008 and privately held, Harmac Pacific Pulp operates a Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft pulp mill on the East coast of Vancouver Island near Nanaimo, BC. Nanaimo Forest Products (NFP) Ltd., the owner of the Harmac Pacific trademark, restarted the mill with a single production line on October 3, 2008. Since that time the mill has grown to two production lines and a capacity of 400,000 tonnes of world-class pulp per year. Key to Harmac’s success is the employee ownership model. Our employees are very active participants in the running of the business and have 2 members that they appoint to the company’s 6 seats on its Board of Directors. 

The future of Harmac Pacific Pulp is looking bright. Through extensive capital investments, the organization has made significant improvements to productivity and reliability. In addition, as of 2013, the installation has been complete of a 25 MW Green Energy turbogenerator which we currently use to sell power to BC Hydro. 

Job description:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Production Area Supervisor to join our team at Harmac Pacific Pulp Mill. Under the direction of the Production Superintendent, you will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and directing the operation of one of the following areas as assigned,

 
  1. Digesters / Kamyr / Washers / CTS
  2. Bleach Plants / Bleach Screen Room
  3. Recaust / Fibre Line
  4. Machine Room / Pulp Cleanup

Objectives are to obtain maximum results within the assigned area of responsibility and the overall operation, paying particular attention to safety and health, environmental protection, quality, production, cost, morale, and maintenance requirements of that specific area.

To provide coverage for the other Production Area Supervisors as required.

To provide support on mill start-ups, shutdowns, equipment breakdowns, holidays, off-shifts, and weekends as required.



Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Lead the accident prevention program in assigned area, taking on OH&S leadership and training initiatives.
  • Maximize mill production within the constraints of safety, quality, environmental, and costs.
  • Maintain product quality standards, coordinating between product quality and production.
  • Set maintenance priorities in cooperation with Maintenance supervisors and production personnel.
  • Plan operational aspects of maintenance shutdowns, taking a lead role during shutdown of coordinating all aspects of confined spaces, lockouts, permits, clean up and inspections.
  • Lead production cost reduction and improvement.
  • Develop and maintain a training plan for the assigned production area in cooperation with administration
  • Arrange for training and certification of crew members.
  • Knowledgeable about ISO14001 and company environmental protection and reporting procedure requirements.
  • Responsible for production records and reports.
  • Evaluate the performance of employees working in assigned area of production.
Qualifications:
 
  • A strong background in Pulp manufacturing and/or Maintenance of Pulp process equipment.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills and leadership abilities.
  • A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with people to achieve results.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience in developing job procedures and training systems.
  • Working knowledge of desktop computer software applications including Microsoft office.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Must be able to demonstrate initiative and deal with multiple demands.
